{"id":347,"date":"2013-07-17T15:37:43","date_gmt":"2013-07-17T15:37:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.vwlowen.co.uk\/?p=347"},"modified":"2013-07-20T13:45:40","modified_gmt":"2013-07-20T13:45:40","slug":"mad-dogs-and-englishmen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/blog\/?p=347","title":{"rendered":"Mad Dogs and Englishmen&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My internet wifi signal has always been pretty dire around the bungalow so I recently bought a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netgear.co.uk\/home\/products\/wireless-range-extenders\/WN3000RP.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Netgear Range Extender<\/a> to see if it would improve things.<\/p>\n<p>It worked quite well but, as it was occupying the one and only socket in the hall, I decided to fit a socket in the utility cupboard which houses the house alarm. It entailed running a new 2.5mm cable in the loft and, for some unknown reason, I decided today &#8211; one of the hottest days of the year &#8211; would be a good day to do it.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see from the thermometer I took into the loft (after the job was finished), it was pretty hot up there!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.vwlowen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/temp1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.vwlowen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/temp1-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"temp\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-364\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/temp1-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/temp1.jpg 387w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anyway, it&#8217;s done now and I get a good signal all round the bungalow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.vwlowen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/access-point.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.vwlowen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/access-point-213x300.jpg\" alt=\"access-point\" width=\"213\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-353\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/access-point-213x300.jpg 213w, https:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/access-point.jpg 312w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 213px) 100vw, 213px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(The electrical regulations say it&#8217;s legal &#8211; &#8216;though not necessarily advisable &#8211; for anyone to add to an existing 13 Amp circuit provided it&#8217;s not in the kitchen or bathroom or outside.<\/p>\n<p>Bizarrely, although I&#8217;m a time-served electrician and daily worked on high voltage industrial equipment, I was never certified to Part P of the Building Regulations and am not allowed to do work outside that outlined above. Well, strictly speaking, as a &#8216;competent person&#8217;, I would be allowed to do the work but would then need to get it certified by a Part P inspector &#8211; which is likely to cost more than getting a Part P electrician to do the work in the first place.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My internet wifi signal has always been pretty dire around the bungalow so I recently bought a Netgear Range Extender to see if it would improve things.
