{"id":484,"date":"2013-10-18T13:37:38","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T13:37:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.vwlowen.co.uk\/?p=484"},"modified":"2013-10-19T07:42:42","modified_gmt":"2013-10-19T07:42:42","slug":"mini-project-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/blog\/?p=484","title":{"rendered":"Mini Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most of my electronics projects these days use micro-controller chips because they allow quite complicated circuits to be built with relatively few components.<\/p>\n<p>My &#8220;favourite&#8221; micro-controller is the <a href=\"http:\/\/arduino.cc\/en\/Hacking\/PinMapping\" target=\"_blank\">ATmega328<\/a>. It has 28 pins, most of which can be used to connect <strong><em>input devices<\/em><\/strong>, such as switches, buttons, light sensors, temperature sensors, and so on or <strong><em>output devices<\/em><\/strong>, such as LEDs, displays, motors etc.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a very versatile chip but sometimes the 28 pins is a bit &#8220;overkill&#8221;.  The manufacturer of the ATmega328 makes a &#8220;family&#8221; of similar chips with 8, 14 and 20 pins in addition to the 28-pin ATmega328 but I was unable to program them &#8211; until now!<\/p>\n<p>I made a <a href=\"http:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/arduino\/icsp\/icsp.htm\" target=\"_blank\">stand alone programmer<\/a> some time ago which was able to program 28-pin and 14-pin chips but I wanted to program the 8-pin chips as well so I made my &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/arduino\/icsp\/page4.htm\" target=\"_blank\">mini programmer<\/a>&#8221;<br \/>\nwhich connects to the main programmer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.vwlowen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/attiny85-connected.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.vwlowen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/attiny85-connected-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"attiny85-connected\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-485\" srcset=\"http:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/attiny85-connected-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/vwlowen.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/attiny85-connected.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most of my electronics projects these days use micro-controller chips because they allow quite complicated circuits to be built with relatively few components.
